Headshot + Resume

My life has always been surrounded by music. Little me grew up listening to and being inspired by the many jazz, R&B, and Gospel sounds my parents played and sang around the house. I can't remember when I decided to pursue music because it's all I've ever known. Fast forward to current Brianna, I am a creative with a Bachelor's in Music Theater from Oklahoma City University and am currently based in NYC.

By "Creative" I mean a singer, actor, dancer, musician, and songwriter. I'm so glad that you have stumbled upon me. Hopefully, you get a glimpse into my wonderful and crazy life, and hopefully, that leads to us meeting someday soon!

Why this path?

I hope that anytime someone encounters me, they leave with something they didn't have when they met me. I truly create to change lives. Of course, I also do it for the love of the craft, and for the joy it brings me but ultimately I create to inspire. To inspire the little Black Girl to chase her dreams. To inspire joy in the dull, an outlet for the weary. I do this so that when someone encounters my art, they leave different and with a little more light than when they came.

Lizzy is why I believed I could write music after years of feeling inadequate. When I was a kid I wanted to be a songwriter so bad. But anytime I sat down to write I felt underwhelmed with my writing. When I first found Lizzy's music I connected with her writing style in a way I had never felt before. I immediately said to myself, I can do this. I can write how I feel and then sing it, no glamor needed. That's what I've done since, thanks to Lizzy.

The reason I do theater is because of Cynthia Erivo's 2018 Tony Award Performance of "I'm Here" from THE COLOR PURPLE. I hadn't found theater before that performance and it shifted my entire life. I immediately said to myself, I want to do that. I want to command a story and a meaning like that. So instead of going to college for Jazz Performance, I went for Musical Theater and my life has been forever changed.

I mean have you heard her? I found Tori before she was famous. When she had two videos on YouTube and had just auditioned for American Idol, I would go in my closet and copy her tone and riffs, for hours on end. That's how I learned to sing. She is my vocal blue point and truly the foundation of my sound. She's also just a fantastic human and role model.
